GNOME India!!

GNOME India Mailing list has been created. Yay!

I need to complete my part of the GNOME summary.

Now back to mail chewing.

GNOME Foundation elections

Voted for the 2003 elections. Tough job :-P.

Now back to work…

Testing…

Tested the LiveCD on a 400 MHz Celeron box with 128 megs of RAM. I would say that it performed quite admirably - only full screen video in Totem did some skipping and spluttering. ;-)

Back to work now…

Live CD beta3 released

Live CD beta3 was ‘officially’ released today. The announcement is available here. Now I have to clean up the rest of the bugs, and we will be ready for the final version.

Shamashis, Sayan and myself went to Joyrup sir’s house this evening - had a nice chat with him and Debrup.

Feeling too sleepy now - more later.

Duh..

Indra-da is having a lot of problems with uploading the files to the sourceforge server - he will try to upload it from somewhere else tomorrow.

Got a fixed version of MuktiNarrowBold.ttf from Dr Anirban Mitra. Made a tarball and uploaded it to savannah. Fired off a few release announcements.

Live CD beta3 tomorrow! (hopefully)

Just burned a copy of the Live CD beta3 for Indra-da - who will be uploading the ISO to sourceforge tonight (provided that his DIAS connection behaves properly). I am working on the release announcement - and meanwhile, here are two screenshots from the Ankur Bangla Chhaar Poka Nashok that has been included in this release ;-).

LiveCD beta3 imminent

Live CD Updates

The beta3 release of the LiveCD will be out very soon, and I have spent the past few days weeding out bugs, updating stuff and cleaning up things. The new network config tool looks like

The tool worked fine with my DIAS connection.
Full Changelog will be posted here soon - “keep watching this space for more” ;-).

Slashdot

Someone from Slashdot linked to a posting that I had made to the ilug-cal mailing list. Luckily, Gmane does not show the email ids - so I won’t get spammed by millions asking for my .config file. :-)

Live CD Updates

Updated all the GNOME related software in the Live CD (the new machine is really fast when it comes to compiling). The new setup has a really cute translucent throbber/spinner for Nautilus/Epiphany. I think the image below sums up the updates that I made today.
About GNOME
(..I know - the Bangla is a little odd sounding - but it is being fixed by Progga).

Drupal 4.3.0

Drupal 4.3.0 has been released. I’ll download it and test it tomorrow, and if I like it - I’ll update ilug-cal.org.

Matrix Revolutions

Matrix Revolutions has come to Kolkata. Probably I will be going to see it with Sayan and co. on Saturday. The reviews do not speak very highly of it… too bad - I really liked the very first Matrix :-(. They should have probably left it at that. লেবু বেশী কচলালে তিতো হয়ে যায় ।

BIOS update

…and oh!! I updated my BIOS yesterday - was a quite scary process. (this was my first attempt)

The computer had a nasty hardware failure, and so, I got a new motherboard (a Nforce2 based thingy from LeadTek), a new processor (AMD Athlox XP 2600+), 512 megs of DDR RAM (running at 333 Mhz) and a Seagate Barracuda hard disk (40 GiGs). Quite a powerful setup (compared to my older box - and I plan to increase the RAM to 1 GiG soon). Performance (especial the decrease the compile time) is quite impressive and I am quite happy. :-D
..anyway, I am still settling down with the new machine (install/compile/install/uninstall/yuck/yuck) , and will make a better posting next time.
