Planet FLOSS India is official

Finally, Planet FLOSS India is official. Now I need to setup a proper hackergotchi gallery for it. In the meantime, those who are impatient can go here.

Random GNOME Tip

In case you want to copy files between directories, but want to use drag and drop, instead of left clicking, hold down the middle mouse button while dragging. Once you release the button, you’ll be asked whether you want to move/copy/link the file, or whether you simply want to cancel the operation. Cool !!

About the middle button thing — I believe you have to use middle-drag to make a link to a file on your desktop. Cool perhaps, but hardly intuitive or discoverable. The other option is to right click and select “make link”, which puts the link in the same directory as the file its linking to., and then drag it to you desktop. That’s pretty retarded, IMHO. 99% of the time you want to put the link on your desktop, so that should be the default. And if you don’t have write perms to the directory, “make link” is grayed out!! Mind bending stuff. Windows does this right, and its easy to see that it works well, so why not just copy it? Ok, Gotta stop ranting and go file a bug.
