Something to prove my insanity

Next weekend I am probably going to give a presentation on Bangla in KDE, with Bangla slides (yeah!! using Bangla script). I don’t think anyone with any amount of sanity would do that - especially before a live audience.

The downside of all this is that I have to install KDE in my system - I will be using KDE after almost a year. Wooo…

Meet at Mumbai, and my new laptop

I am finally blogging from my new laptop (a Compaq Presario 2200 series system). I was at Mumbai during the weekend for the Indic workshop - and we managed to have two very productive days there - probably Karunakar would soon give you the details. There might also be some very good news with respect to the Indic fonts, but probably Dr. Nagarjuna would be the right person to talk about that. :)

I also attended a meeting of the FSF-India working group on Saturday (no - I am not a WG member), and met some very nice people in that meet.

New laptop

Finally I went out and booked a new laptop. It is a Pentium M 715 based system, with 256 megs of RAM, an ipw2200 wireless network adapter, a VIA Rhine II ethernet card and the other usual stuff (including a DVD/CD-RW combo). I went to the showroom for a demo, and both Knoppix 3.3 and the JDS Live CD ran properly on it, so I am more or less sure that the base hardware will be Linux compatible. I ran a few apps (Staroffice, OpenOffice.org, Bochs, The GIMP, XMMS, Chromium, Frozen Bubble, etc), and performance was quite acceptable. I got the whole thing in the sub 60K range, so I am quite happy. The actual thing will arrive next week.
