GRIND Updates

Soumyadip “Khaanru” Modak and myself have been working on having better Indic support in the GRIND installer, and right now, we have beta level support for Bangla, Hindi, Panjabi and Tamil (yeah - I have setup gallery for hosting all the screenshots). Moreover, I have been setting up a bug/issue tracker for our work. Eventum seemed to satisfy our requirements, and has a few nice extra features as well.

In other news, I have been working on OpenOffice.org as well, and it has got much better Bangla support now.

….and here’s the first draft of the font document that I have been working one.

Hmmm…

I am nerdier than 97% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

Dammit!! Where did the “date” command go?

I am one of those late risers - waking up at around 9 in the morning (especially during weekends). However, unlike normal late risers, when I wake up, in a half asleep state, I try to figure out why I can’t execute the date command (what the hell - what I kind of distro is this? this thing does not even have date… are the thoughts that usually come across my mind). Well - it seems that I am not the only one - there are people who have experienced even worse.

GRIND updates

Finally, my motherboard dealer decided to give me a replacement motherboard - and I bought a 512 MB RAM clip with it - so my desktop has a 1 GB RAM now. :-D This motherboard seems to be better than the older one - since it seems to use a newer version of the nForce2 chipset, and has support for SATA and Firewire. Installed Debian Sarge on it - and it seems to be running fine.

Soumyadip dropped in today, and together (after some initial head scratching), we managed to build the initial version of the Indic component - which is designed to give the basic level Indic language support to GRIND. With that, we managed to get the GRIND installer to work in Bangla -

..and among the interesting things happening in the www - take a look at this article - if you are a college student (especially like me) - it is a must read.
