Dell delays

Dell is beginning to piss me off. I ordered the Dell XPS M1330 on the 31st of July (order number 2231338), and till date, I have not even got a estimated date of delivery, and apparently, the build has not been started yet.

After placing my order, I emailed them on the 3rd of August, and a CSR called me back, promising to give me a ESD by the 6th. There was no updates on the 6th, and after not getting any response from another follow up mail that I sent, I called up their customer service department. The CSR told me that there would be a delay of around fifteen days for the build process to start. She also told me that it would take around 3/4 days to complete the build and testing processes, and then it would take upto another 10 days for the shipping, primarily because of duty and customs clearance delays at the Indian airports. The next day (or probably on the day after), another lady called up, and told me the same thing, and promised me that I would definitely get my machine by the end of August. After that, there has been complete silence from the Dell side. Right now, assuming that the build hasn’t started yet, I don’t think I’ll be getting my notebook before mid September. Moreover, to make things worse, the price of the configuration that I ordered has gone down by nearly 6000 rupees (around 150 US dollars) in the last (almost) one month.
I was thinking of cancelling my order, since the new semester has started at college and I badly need a notebook to do all my work, but people tell me that getting a refund going to be a major PITA, as I ordered via a pre-paid card. Right now I don’t know what to do. I’ll try calling up Dell India again on Monday, and I guess the only thing that I can do right now is hope that my system will go into build stage next week :-(.
[Update]:: Called up Dell today, and the CSR told me that a new batch of parts is expected at the Malaysia factory (where all Dell India notebook orders are assembled) on the 7th of September. The build process for my notebook would start only after all the parts are in place, and so it seems that I will not receive the notebook before the 20th of September. That makes it 50 days of waiting :-(. After the conversation, I sent a mail to the customer care email address, asking for an acknowledgement/confirmation on the info that I had received, but till now, I have not got any reply.
[Update 2]:: Got the following reply via email for my request for confirmation:
Dear Sir,
As confirmed by our customer care dept., we are currently facing a
worldwide shortage on some parts & hence the delivery is held up,
however our customer care will give you regular updates on the status. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Subject: [Order number 2231338] Request for confirmationHello,
I called up your customer service department regarding the status of
my order (XPS M1330, order number 2231338), and I was informed that
the missing parts holding up the order would arrive on the 7th of
September at Malaysia, and hopefully after that the system will be
shipped out on the 9th and then it will probably reach my place after
7-10 days (due to customs clearance issues at Kolkata).Could you kindly confirm this ?
My order details are as follows:

[Update 3]: The laptop seems to have shipped finally. The shipping date is 30th August, and initially the estimated delivery date was showing as 18th September, but from yesterday, it has been showing 7th September.

[Update 4]: Delivered - finally the thing was delivered to my address on the 20th - a 50days wait altogether. However, build quality seems to be solid, and performance is superb.

I ordered mine on the 10th of july. I got an estimated delivery dat of august 8th. Then they pushed it back to september the 3rd. They still havnt started building it though, so we’ll see how that goes. This is in sweden.
Heh, ordered a m1210 july 18th. Estimated delivery was August 8, after that it has been pushed back a week every week… Holland here.
The German Dell website gives the following warning for some systems (for example XPS notebooks): “Auf Grund einer noch nie dagewesenen Nachfrage bedauern wir Ihnen mitteilen zu müssen, dass Ihre Bestellung für dieses System eine Lieferzeit von ca. 5 Wochen in Anspruch nehmen kann. Wir entschuldigen uns für die Unanehmlichkeiten.” Roughly translated it reads “Because of unprecedented demand we are sorry to tell you that your order for this system will take up a delivery time of about five weeks. Kindly excuse any inconvenience.” Perhaps they’re referring to the same problem?
I ordered a Dell Inspiron 1520 August o4 and it is still not in the ‘production phase’! The estimated time is mid September according to their web order status system. I thought that was a looong time so I phoned Dell, but the lady I was talking to could not tell my why.
A friend of mine order a Dell laptop in June and got it within a week! This is very annoying and why are they not informing their customer better ? Btw, they took my money the second the order was submitted. How can that be legal ?
Greetings from Norway.
I previously left a comment saying the expected delivery date was September 3rd. Well, now it has been pushed back to October 16th. Thats over 3 months after the order date. I’m going to call them on monday to see what the hell is going on.

Maybe the new Dell is too beautiful and too attractive. I want another Dell…
don’t feel bad. i ordered my on July 6 & still don’t have it. it has been in the “build” stage since the 10th of July. Estimated delivery is this Friday (not!).

I ordered my Inspiron 1420 on July 13. Now the latest expected delivery date is September 6. Why do customers need to suffer due to the incompetence of Dell’s management?
I ordered mine on July 6, delivery date was August 1, then it got delayed to August 28, today. I got an email again saying it was DELAYED until Sep 5. WOW! Are we ever going to get our COMPUTERS!
The same with me. I have ordered my machine on Aug. 3rd and the delivery is due on Sept. 9th. We will see how that works out …
i ordered my dell notebook on 5th july and got it by 9th july.. same yr.. i have never had a problem ever with dell.. and to speak the truth.. i have worked with dell for a yr… and when the csr say that there is a shortage in parts shipping.. they really mean it…
I never thought I could be so mad at a company! I ordered the computer on July 14th so I could have it in time for me leaving for college on the August 27th. Well, the computer was delayed from the estimated ship date of July 23rd, then to August 2nd, August 28th, and finally September 5th. I called on the 5th and now the computer is being backordered to September 12th (but we all know it isnt shipping anytime soon!). So I called Dell yesterday and the guy told me that his son’s computer was on back order too and to just be patient. When I got mad, he told me that there had to be another computer at school I could use and he told me that it wasn’t that big of a deal. I have never been so disgusted with all aspects of a company. If this computer wasn’t exactly what I needed for college, then I woud cancel the order (but believe me, I am seriously thinking about it). Before this, I would have reccomended Dell to anyone (my family has bought all of our computers from Dell and has never had a problem), but now I’m not sure I would. Meanwhile, I’m at college without a computer! It truly is “Dell from Hell”!
Hi all!
Very interesting information! Thanks!
Bye
I ordered a Dell XPS 710; had my arrival date changed 10 times (yes, 10) and totally conflicting advice from every Dell operative I have talked to (supervisors included.)
Dell also lied to me about my machine being in production and took my money before the machine was even processed. My order was also cancelled without notification to me.
A truly unprofessional company who I would never deal with again. Dell are you listening!?
I have the same problem. I placed an order on Aug 4, 07 and i was promised delivery on aug 14, then they extended it to aug 26 and now they are telling me that there is a problem at the checkpost (for clearance). they’ve been making all kinds of excuses and they even emailed me an order cancellation form (telling me that its a formality for clearance, i should just sign it) but when i refused, they said that they’ve sent me the wrong declaration letter. Iam totally shocked about the kind of treatment im getting from Dell india. My experience earlier with Dell Canada was amazing. I placed an order in Toronto, i got it delivered in 5days! Lets see what happens now, im still waiting…
I ordered my XPS M1710 on October 16th. First ESD was October 25th, second ESD was November 1st, third ESD was November 6th and now it’s December 4th. I think I’ll look at buying an HP Pavilion HDX. Kind of sad when you have to wait 6 weeks for a system, when you can go down the street and bring it home the same day.
I ordered the XPS M2010 on the 27th of march and received the estimated shipping date. Dell said that the product would be delivered on the 24th of April. I just received an email from them telling me that the estimated delivery date would be delayed and is now on the 15th of MAY
Seeing all these comments, I guess I’m not the only one experiencing this kind of problem…
And I wonder why people still buy Dells ! Their notebooks aren’t the best quality by any yardstick, they are usually the slowest with delivery and aren’t exactly the cheapest, atleast not in India.
can u send me the details that have to be send to dell after gettind a new dell laptop
Hi
I ordered my Dell Inspiron 1525 on Sunday 12th June and it arrived Wednesday 15th June! The day after I ordered it, it moved very quickly through the stages (every couple of hours it got to the next stage) and then my delivery was arranged for the Wednesday. Excellent service!
I am in the UK.
