The picture above (I took it during September 2006) looks very similar to a photo published in this month’s Linux For You. A scan of the page is available in Ravishankar’s blog.
…and it looks like this is not the first time Linux for You is doing this :-(.

The author of the article had sent us the pics for the article. Unlike text, we have no way to check whether it’s been lifted from a Web site or not. Also, generally in articles like these the author contacts the respondents for images as well, so we presumed the author had got the pictures from Gora Mohanty himself. I’ll check with the author how the picture was obtained. In fact, for Rahul Sundaram’s pics for the same article, the author had sent us flickr links and we have mentioned Sankarsan as the copyright holder for the image, and also mentioned the licence info along with the photo.
The Eben Moglen issue (an interview published in Sept 07 issue of LFY) was a different one, and the Sankarshan’s claim was also wrong. In that interview the photo credit was given to the copyright holder, which was Ramakrishna Reddy. The issue was that we forgot to include the licence info along with it. In fact, we carried the errata in the Oct 07 issue.
Anyway, I apologise for the issue. And rest assured we’ll carry an errata in June issue’s feedback’s section. However, we would really appreciate if we’re directly contacted whenever you see “injustices” like these (in fact, you have my official e-mail id as well). We don’t purposely do it as many believe, and also when at fauly the editorial doesn’t shy from owning up.
